The song, “100% Pure Love”, was originally recorded by Crystal Waters in 1994
Teddy Douglas, Thomas Davis, Jay Steinhour and Crystal Waters herself wrote the song “100% Pure Love” for her second studio album, “Storyteller”. The track was released as the lead single from the album in April 1994 and peaked at No.11 in America and No.15 in the UK. The song was a No.2 hit in Australia as well as topping the US Club chart. “100% Pure Love” topped the US Dance chart, Crystal’s third number one.
In late 2022, British singer and actor Olly Alexander, as Years & Years, recorded and released his version of the song, which was used for a TV advert promoting holidays. His version brings “100% Pure Love” into the 21st century but loosing none of the production style of the original. So far, the Years & Years version has been a hit on download charts around the world.
But which version is the best? CRYSTAL WATERS’ original or YEARS & YEARS’ cover?
