A brand new 9 foot sculpture of The Infamous B.I.G. referred to as “Sky’s the Restrict within the County of Kings” has been erected close to the Brooklyn Bridge.
The Notorious B.I.G. is synonymous with New York Metropolis. Whether or not it’s a historic celebration or a metro card, his legacy is embedded inside Brooklyn’s DNA. And now, he’s immortalized as a statue.
A brand new 9 foot artwork set up referred to as “Sky’s the Restrict within the County of Kings” has been erected close to the Brooklyn Bridge (on the northeast nook of Prospect Avenue and Washington Avenue). The statue is beautiful, that includes Biggie sporting a crown and Coogi sweater. He’s gazing on the metropolis like he owns it.
The statue was designed by NYC artist Sherwin Banfield and it was constructed to rejoice the fiftieth anniversary of hip-hop, which is subsequent 12 months.
The sustainable and interactive statue is fastidiously curated with Bronze, Resin, Stainless Metal, Winterstone, and Wooden. And to make sure you don’t miss it, a particular DJ combine is performed that includes Biggie’s hits. (There’s a in-built audio system powered by a photo voltaic vitality.)
Banfield talked to Artnet information concerning the statue. He mentioned:
“I wished to take one thing traditional then remix or pattern it with one thing new and contemporary.”
The statue was made in collaboration between the Downtown Revitalization Initiative and The Downtown Brooklyn + Dumbo Artwork Fund. In keeping with Banfield, he had beforehand sketched out a design for a monument devoted to Biggie and jumped at this chance after his cousin informed him about it.

The statue will stay on show till Spring 2023.
