35 years have passed since Scottish band Texas began recording their debut album “Southside”. The band took to the charts in January 1989 with the top ten hit “I Don’t Want A Lover” and it has been a rollercoaster ride ever since. Now the group look back with a definitive best of album, “The Very Best of Texas” as well as two new tracks.
The unmistakeable voice of Sharleen Spiteri rings out from the lead single, “After All”, which has just launched and you could be forgiven for thinking that it’s still 1989 from the sound that emanates from the band. “After All” is their first new recording since 2021’s “Hi”, which featured on their last studio album of the same name. Texas spend most of the early 1990’s in the shadows, except their top twenty cover of “So Tired Of Being Alone” in 1992. The band hit paydirt in 1997 with the “White On Blonde” album that spawned chart smash hits with “Say What You Want”, “Black Eyed Boy” and “Halo”. The success didn’t stop there and 1999 brought “Summer Son” and “In Our Lifetime” from “The Hush”. Both albums are multi-Platinum certifed.
The 2000’s saw hits with “Inner Smile”, “Carnival Girl” and “Getaway” as well as their first “Greatest Hits” album that sold over a million copies. Texas will be taking to the stage at Glastonbury this year, an ideal time to reflect on four decades of hits that everyone should know the words to!
